A New Chapter for Masonwood Development: Jim and Jack Meredith Carry a Family Legacy Forward

For more than 30 years, Masonwood Development has helped shape the way Central Texas grows. What began as a small, hands-on development company has become a trusted, family-owned real estate development firm known for turning well-positioned land into thoughtful communities with lasting value.

Today, Masonwood is entering its next chapter.

Founder Jim Meredith is beginning to hand more of the company’s day-to-day leadership and operations to his son, Jack Meredith, President and Chief Financial Officer. But this moment is not about Jim stepping away from the business he built. It is about Masonwood evolving with the next generation while staying grounded in the experience, relationships, and vision that have shaped the company from the beginning.

Jim will remain actively involved in Masonwood, continuing to focus on the work he has always done best: identifying opportunities, evaluating land, maintaining relationships with builders and lenders, and helping shape the vision behind each community. Jack will lead the day-to-day business, bringing the financial discipline, operational structure, technology-forward thinking, and steady leadership needed to guide Masonwood into its next era.

Together, Jim and Jack represent both sides of Masonwood’s story: the instinct to see what land can become and the discipline to bring that vision to life.

Built from the Ground Up

Masonwood Development began in the early 1990s as a project management company completing development work for home builders. In those early years, Jim learned the development business by managing real projects, building lots, working closely with builders, and understanding what it takes to move land from possibility to reality.

Over time, the company expanded beyond contract development and began acquiring, entitling, and developing its own communities. What started as a small family business grew into a respected Central Texas real estate development company with more than 15,000 lots delivered across more than 20 communities.

Masonwood’s growth was built on Jim’s ability to recognize opportunity early. He understood where markets were moving, how growth corridors were forming, and how to bring together the right builders, lenders, consultants, and local stakeholders to make a development work.

For Jim, the work has always started with vision. A piece of land is never just a piece of land. It is a question of timing, access, demand, relationships, and potential. It is the ability to look at what exists and imagine what could be created there.

For Jack, the opportunity has been to help turn that vision into a stronger, more scalable business. Through his work in finance, operations, systems, and project performance, he has helped Masonwood build the structure needed to support larger and more complex developments without losing the responsiveness of a family-owned company.

Jack Meredith’s Path to Leadership

Jack Meredith’s leadership story at Masonwood did not begin behind a desk. It began in the field.

Long before becoming President and CFO, Jack worked on survey crews, spent time on construction sites, operated equipment, and learned how development happens from the ground up. He later worked on construction takeoffs and estimates, connecting what he saw in the field with the numbers, timelines, quantities, and costs behind every project.

That early experience shaped the way he approaches leadership today. He learned the land, the construction process, and the real-world details that sit behind every spreadsheet and projection.

After earning his finance degree from St. Edward’s University, Jack formally joined Masonwood in 2016 as a financial analyst. He became CFO in 2019 and has since helped guide the financial strategy behind more than $400 million in development and the delivery of more than 1,000 lots.

Over the years, Jack has helped strengthen Masonwood’s financial systems, accounting procedures, project-performance tracking, and operational processes. Jim has often credited that work as a major reason the company has been able to grow with greater confidence over the past decade.

That progress matters because real estate development is full of moving parts. Land acquisition, entitlement, infrastructure, financing, builder commitments, construction timelines, and market conditions all have to work together. Jack’s leadership has brought greater visibility, consistency, and discipline to those variables, helping Masonwood evaluate opportunities more clearly and respond to challenges earlier.

What was once a highly entrepreneurial development shop has become a more structured and sophisticated organization, while still holding onto the instinct, relationship-driven approach, and entrepreneurial spirit that made Masonwood successful in the first place.

A Thoughtful Transition

The leadership transition from Jim to Jack is the natural next step in a partnership that has been developing for years. Jack is now handling more of Masonwood’s day-to-day operations, including financial strategy, project oversight, team development, systems, processes, and long-term planning. Jim remains closely involved, continuing to do what he loves most and what he does exceptionally well: sourcing deals, studying land, working with builders and lenders, and helping define the vision for future Masonwood communities. That balance gives Masonwood both continuity and momentum.

For Masonwood’s builder, lender, investor, consultant, and community partners, the transition means the company’s values remain firmly in place. The relationships, responsiveness, and commitment to thoughtful development that have defined Masonwood will continue, now supported by the structure and technology needed for what comes next.

Vision Backed by Financial Discipline

Masonwood Development’s success has always depended on the ability to balance vision with execution.

Every development begins with possibility, but possibility alone is not enough. Land must be studied. Markets must be understood. Infrastructure must be planned. Costs must be managed. Builder partnerships must be aligned. Financing must be carefully structured. Timing must be watched closely.

Jack’s financial leadership has helped Masonwood strengthen that side of the business. By developing stronger forecasting, accounting, and project-performance systems, he has helped the company make better-informed decisions and create a stronger platform for future development.

Today, Masonwood has completed more than $450 million in transactions, delivered more than 15,000 lots, and established a portfolio of communities across the Austin area and beyond, including two current high-profile master-planned communities: Provence in Bee Cave and Viera in Medina County. Each reflects a different part of Masonwood’s growth story, but both show what happens when long-term vision, strong relationships, and disciplined execution come together.

Provence: A Hill Country Community Years in the Making

Located near Bee Cave in the Texas Hill Country, Provence is one of Masonwood Development’s signature master-planned communities. The community brings together natural beauty, new homes, thoughtful planning, and access to the highly regarded Lake Travis Independent School District. Surrounded by Hill Country scenery and located near shopping, dining, golf, and major employment areas, Provence reflects Masonwood’s ability to recognize the long-term promise of a location and shape it into a meaningful place to live.

Provence also represents an important chapter in Masonwood’s own evolution. As the community developed, so did the company behind it. Masonwood added key professionals, created more defined roles, strengthened internal departments, and continued building the operating structure needed to support more complex projects.

Now, Provence is preparing for another exciting addition with The Hills, a new section designed for high-end, lock-and-leave living. With thoughtfully sized homes for empty nesters, retirees, and buyers seeking convenience without sacrificing quality, The Hills will add a new dimension to the Provence lifestyle.

For Masonwood, The Hills is more than a new home section. It is another example of the company’s ability to listen to the market, understand how buyers’ needs are changing, and create the communities that respond with purpose.

Viera: Masonwood’s Vision Expands West of San Antonio

Viera marks another major milestone for Masonwood Development. Located along the Potranco Road growth corridor in Medina County, the 540-acre master-planned community represents Masonwood’s first development in the San Antonio market. Planned for more than 1,000 homesites, Viera will bring new housing, amenities, trails, gathering spaces, and Hill Country-inspired design to one of the region’s most active areas of growth.

The community is expected to include a lifestyle pool, outdoor kitchen and pavilion, interconnected trails, and spaces designed to bring people together. With respected home builders and development partners involved, Viera reflects the same thoughtful approach that has guided Masonwood’s work throughout Central Texas.

For Masonwood, Viera is both a milestone and a signal of what is possible. It shows how the company’s experience, relationships, financial planning, and operational systems can support growth in new markets. It also demonstrates how the foundation Jim built and the systems Jack has helped strengthen are working together to move Masonwood into its next phase.

Advancing Real Estate Through Technology

As Masonwood looks ahead, technology will play an increasingly important role in how the company plans, manages, visualizes, and communicates development. Jack has already helped lead the adoption of more advanced financial, accounting, and project-management systems within Masonwood. These tools have helped the company move toward a more dynamic operating model, where timelines, costs, contracts, and project performance can be monitored with greater clarity.

The company is also exploring technologies such as Visimir and Pipsy as part of its forward-looking approach to real estate development.

Visimir, an immersive 3D visualization and digital-twin technology, can help bring communities to life before they are fully built. It gives teams, partners, and stakeholders a clearer way to experience a development’s vision, layout, and sense of place.

Pipsy also reflects Masonwood’s interest in tools that make real estate more connected, informed, and efficient.

For Masonwood, technology is not replacing experience. It is enhancing it. The company’s future will still be shaped by land, relationships, market knowledge, and sound judgment. Technology simply gives Masonwood new ways to understand opportunities, communicate ideas, and make more informed decisions.

That balance of experience and innovation is central to the company’s next chapter.

Relationships Still Lead the Way

Even as Masonwood grows and integrates new technology, relationships remain at the heart of the business. Real estate development is never the work of one person or one company alone. It requires trust among lenders, builders, consultants, engineers, contractors, municipalities, landowners, and community partners.

For Jack, those relationships are one of the most important lessons he carries forward from Jim. Strong lender relationships help create stability and confidence. Strong builder relationships help ensure that communities are not only developed well but also built in a way that reflects the larger vision for the land.

Jim has spent decades building those relationships. Jack is now helping carry them forward while continuing to strengthen the business systems behind them. That combination is what makes this transition so important. Masonwood is not choosing between legacy and growth. It is bringing both together.

Preparing Masonwood for the Next 30 Years

Masonwood remains a close-knit, family-owned company, but its foundation has grown stronger. The company has added experienced team members across finance, land acquisition, project management, development operations, and administration. The business is well-staged to support thoughtful, sustainable growth.

Future growth may continue across Central Texas, expand into additional Texas markets, or eventually reach beyond the state. Wherever Masonwood grows next, the company will continue to follow the market carefully, evaluate opportunities thoughtfully, and move with purpose when the right project emerges.

A Family Legacy Moving Forward

The transition from Jim Meredith to Jack Meredith is an important moment for Masonwood Development, but it is not the end of one story and the beginning of another. It is the next chapter of the same story. A story that began with Jim building lots, learning markets, forming relationships, and creating a company rooted in hard work and opportunity. A story that continued as Jack grew up around the business, learned in the field, brought financial discipline to its operations, and helped strengthen Masonwood for the future.

Now, that story moves forward with both generations carrying Masonwood Development into a future shaped by thoughtful growth, and the same belief that has guided the company for more than 30 years: great communities begin with seeing the potential in the land and having the right people to bring it to life.
